Sambar Deer

The sambar deer is India's largest deer.  They live in small family groups, but I often saw one on its own - perhaps family was nearby in the bush, but I couldn't tell.  I came across this male my first evening in Corbett National Park. He was laying in the forest along a dry streambed, in the shade.  It was a gorgeous, peaceful scene.
